Voter Guide Now Available

In an effort to better equip Tar Heel voters for the November 6 general elections, the North Carolina Family Policy Council has begun distributing its 2012 General Election Voter Guide, and has activated the online version of the guide today. The Council’s 24-page 2012 General Election Voter Guide is an impartial and nonpartisan look at where candidates running for state and federal office in North Carolina stand on a variety of important issues. The Voter Guide features responses directly from the candidates about a marriage protection amendment, abortion, adoption, budget and taxes, school choice, sex education, gambling, homosexual rights, religious freedom, embryonic stem cell research, end of life decisions, and more.

The North Carolina Family Policy Council surveyed over 590 candidates during this year’s election season, and compiled 365 general election candidates and their responses to the Council’s questionnaire. Questionnaires were mailed to all candidates, and follow up contacts were made to encourage candidate participation in the 2012 Voter Guide. This year’s Voter Guide includes a record number of candidates. The 2012 Voter Guide includes all candidates running for the following offices in North Carolina:

• Federal: U.S. House (13 seats)
• State Executive Branch: N.C. Governor, N.C. Lt. Governor, N.C. Attorney General, N.C. Auditor, N.C. Commissioner of Agriculture, N.C. Commissioner of Insurance, N.C. Commissioners of Labor, N.C. Secretary of State, N.C. Superintendent of Public Instruction, N.C. Treasurer
• State Judicial Branch: N.C. Supreme Court (1 seat), N.C. Court of Appeals (3 seats), N.C. Superior Court (17 seats)
• State Legislative Branch: N.C. Senate (50 seats), N.C. House (120 seats)

In addition to printing 500,000 copies of the guide, the Council has scanned and made available on its website the actual questionnaires submitted by the candidates. Many candidates chose to provide comments or explanations for their responses to the questionnaire, which are online.

The user-friendly online version of the guide is easily accessed via the North Carolina Family Policy Council’s Voter Resources page, which also includes a 2012 Voter Registration Kit to assist citizens in implementing a voter registration drive in their church, civic organization, local community, etc. Both the 2012 General Election Voter Guide and the 2012 Voter Registration Kit are approved for use by 501(c)(3) organizations, including churches.

ORDERING VOTER GUIDES: Bulk copies of the 2012 Voter Guide are available from the North Carolina Family Policy Council free-of-charge. The guides are packaged in bundles of 100, so be sure to specify how many copies you need in multiples of 100 when placing your order. Orders may be placed using the online sign-up form at ncfamily.org or by downloading the order form and returning to the Council via fax (919-807-0900) or mail (PO Box 20607, Raleigh, NC 27619).
